My Favorite Christian Art and Home Accessories

God is Love One pastor likes to tell the story about the day he gave a co-worker a ride in his truck. The co-worker saw the Bible he had on the seat next to him and said, "I didn't know you were a Christian."

That caused him quite a bit of anguish. He felt that he had failed to let his light shine brightly enough. He thought it should be obvious from the way he behaved. It shouldn't be necessary for him to tell anybody.

So it is with our homes. It should be obvious to anyone who comes to our home that we're Christians, not by the many Bible verses hanging on our walls, plastered on our mugs and T-shirts. It should be obvious by how welcome they feel when they cross our doorstep. How brightly does the light shine in your house?

What Does the Bible Say About Home Decor?

At first glance not a lot. The Bible is all about love, love for one another, His love for us and our love for Him. Now it begins to speak volumes. Clearly, it is not about buying as many Christian themed items as we can find and arranging them throughout our home.

As evidenced by the plethora of sects and practices, it is unlikely that there would be much agreement about what constitutes Christian home decor. My best suggestion is to pray and imagine Jesus in your house. Would he like what he is seeing? Have you decorated it to make it inviting and pleasing for your guests? Most importantly, are you yourself pleasant and inviting?

Outdoor

Hospitality begins long before people cross our doorsteps. Are the leaves raked? Is the path swept? Are the tools in the shed?

Bedroom

Overnight guests will love a room with a warm and comfortable atmosphere.

Kitchen

The kitchen used to be a symbol of family togetherness, a place where needs and wants were shared and filled. It's a place where we work to prepare and eat our meals. It still is.

Living Room

The place where we enjoy the company of family and friends.
